The Trial Chamber of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) has scheduled an adversarial hearing at 09:00 on Tuesday 11 February 2014, to hear oral arguments on the scope of Case 002/02 and on the Khieu Samphan Defence Team’s request that Case 002/01 should be finally adjudicated before the evidentiary hearing in Case 002/02 commences. Should the hearing not conclude on 11 February 2014 as planned, it will continue on the following day.
The hearing is open to the public and the media, and seats in the public gallery will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Representatives of the media seeking access to the hearing should bring their ECCC Accreditation Card. Any questions regarding accreditation can be addressed to pas@eccc.gov.kh.
In Case 002, Nuon Chea and Khieu Samphan face charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and grave breaches of the 1949 Geneva Conventions. The procedural steps which must be completed before the evidentiary hearings can commence in Case 002/02 were outlined in a memorandum with an accompanying workplan issued by the Trial Chamber on 24 December 2013.
