CASE 001

Kaing Guek Eav alias Duch was indicted in Case 001 on 8 August 2008. The trial took place between 30 March and 17 September 2009. On 26 July 2010, the Trial Chamber found Duch guilty of crimes against humanity and grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions of 1949. He was sentenced to 35 years of imprisonment. On appeal, the Supreme Court Chamber overturned the sentencing decision and sentenced Duch to life imprisonment.

CASE 002

Four defendants were indicted in Case 002 on 15 September 2010: Nuon Chea, Khieu Samphan Ieng Sary and Ieng Thirith. Proceedings against Ieng Sary and Ieng Thirith were terminated following the former’s death and the latter’s unfitness to stand trial. Case 002 was subsequently divided into two trials.  In Case 002/01, on 7 August 2014, Nuon Chea and Khieu Samphan were found gulty of crimes against humanity and sentenced to life imprisonment. On 23 November 2016, the Supreme Court Chamber quashed parts of the trial judgement but confirmed the sentence of life imprisonment for Nuon Chea and Khieu Samphan. The evidentiary hearings of Case 002/02 against Nuon Chea and Khieu Samphan concluded on 11 January 2017 with the closing statements scheduled for 13-22 June 2017.

CASE 003

The International Co-Investigating Judge charged Meas Muth in Case 003 in March 2015. The investigation against another suspect, Sou Met, was terminated on 2 June 2015 following his death. On 10 January 2017, the International Co-Investigating Judge concluded the judicial investigation in Case 003.

CASE 004

Three individuals have been charged in Case 004: Im Chaem, Ao An and Yim Tith. Case 004 was subsequently severed into three case files, one for each charged person. The Co-Investigating Judges dismissed Case 004/01 against Im Chaem on 22 February 2017. The judicial investigation against Ao An in Case 004/02 was closed on 16 December 2016. The judicial investigation against Yim Tith in the residual Case 004 continues.
