On June 28, 2023, the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) sent over 230 students from Banteay Pranak High School in Kampong Speu Province's Oral District to the Win Win Memorial, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, and Choeung Ek Genocide Center to see and learn about history. This program aims to inspire all students to understand and remember the sacrifices made by the Royal Government of Cambodia in the liberation of Cambodia, the legacy of the Khmer Rouge tribunal's trials, and the tragedy of Cambodians under the Khmer Rouge regime, as well as to take action to stop future atrocities.
All students were greeted and given a thorough explanation by the tour guides at each location during today's study trip of the significance and history of the Win Win Memorial, the events that occurred in the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, and the Choeung Ek Genocide Center. A presentation on the trial proceedings and trial legacy from the trials of former senior officials of the Khmer Rouge regime was also given to the students by a representative of the Khmer Rouge tribunal.
The professors who guided the students on this study excursion expressed their gratitude and respect for the Royal Government of Cambodia's Win Win strategy, which has helped the nation achieve peace and social stability. They also expressed their gratitude to the ECCC for setting up this program so they could learn, tour the murder scene left over from the Khmer Rouge regime, and observe current development in Phnom Penh.
To encourage remembering and involvement in efforts to stop atrocities like the Khmer Rouge regime, ECCC arranges weekly study excursions for students, youth, and the public.
More than 600,000 members of the local and international public have taken part in the study trip since it began up until 2023, with the Public Affairs Section of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Court of Cambodia coordinating it.
