Australia Contributes AUD 1.4 Million to ECCC

The Australian Government has made a new contribution of AUD 1.4 million (approximately US$ 1.46 million) to the international component of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC). The new donation, which was announced by the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Bob Carr, during a visit to Phnom Penh in July 2012, has already been transferred to the United Nations.

This contribution is in addition to the AUD 1.61 million which Australia contributed earlier this year to both national and international sides of the Court. The recent donation brings the total amount of Australian funding to the ECCC to AUD 19.71 million.

“On behalf of the ECCC, we would like to thank the Australian Government for the generous support to the on-going court proceedings. In a time when the ECCC is facing a significant funding shortfall, such continued support is imperative to ensure that the Court can continue its work without interruption,” said Acting Director of the Office of Administration H.E. Tony Kranh and Deputy Director Mr. Knut Rosandhaug in a statement.
