The Extraordinary of the Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) host an outreach study tour for 200 students from Western university and Kampong Cham university Kampong Cham province, February 8, 2023, to provide students a deeper understanding of the atrocities committed during the Dark Ages and to commemorate the victims of that regime.
In a full day study tour, the students receive a wealth information about the misery life of Cambodian people in the Kampuchea Democratic regime by visiting the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, the Killing Field, and Win Win Monument. The students also learn about the information on the trial of former Khmer Rouge leaders which presented by Public Affairs Officer of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal.
The students who participated in the study tour highlighted that this study tour is important for them because it provides them a chance to visit and see the crime sites and learned deeply on the hardships that befell the Cambodian people during the genocide regime. According to the students, the study tour also provides them to understand the struggles and sacrifices of the Cambodian leadership in liberating the nation from the genocidal regime and have led the nation to progress to the present day.
These young people also praised and appreciated the win-win policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia, which led the country to bring peace and social stability. They also thanked the Khmer Rouge tribunal for organizing the program so that they could understand, visit the crime scene left over from the Khmer Rouge regime and see the development in Phnom Penh today.
The ECCC outreach study tour is organized weekly for students, youth, and the public, as part of the remembrance and participation in preventing the return of the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge regime.
Since the first court proceedings until today,2023, more than half a million national and international public have participated in the outreach study tours under the coordination and organization of the Public Affairs Section of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal.
