ECCC Organizes an Outreach Study Tour for 200 Cambodian Muslim Students and from Kampot Province

The Extraordinary of the Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) organizes an outreach study tour for 200 Muslim students and youth from Kampong Kes district and Kampot Town in Kampot province, March 9, 2023, to provide the group a deeper understanding of the atrocities committed during the Dark Age and to commemorate the victims of that regime.

During today's study tour, the group visits to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21), the Choeung Ek Genocide Centre, the Win Win Monument, and got briefing by an official from the Khmer Rouge tribunal about the trial of former senior leaders of Democratic Kampuchea regime. For the whole day visit, the group would receive a wealth of information and knowledge about the trial of former Khmer Rouge leaders, the brutal torture and massacre of Cambodians by the Khmer Rouge, and their sacrifices of the Cambodian leadership in liberating the country from that genocidal regime.

Mr. LY Ahmad, deputy principle Al Afaf high school and the leader of the group, said that the students are very happy to participate in the study tour program organized by the ECCC to the historical sites related to the Khmer Rouge Regime. He added that the visit provides much knowledge to the students through seeing the actual images and listening to the briefing from the relevant officials at each location. The deputy hopes that this program would help the students remember what the Khmer Rouge regime committed to Cambodians, understand the value of the peace and joining in preventing genocidal regime from not being happened again in Cambodia.

The​ Muslim youth leader also praised and appreciated the win-win policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia, which led the country to bring peace and social stability. He, then, thanks the Khmer Rouge tribunal for organizing the program and wishes to have such program for other Cambodians to learn, visit the crime scene left over from the Khmer Rouge regime and see the development in Phnom Penh city today.

The ECCC outreach study tour is organized weekly for students, youth, and the public, as part of the remembrance and participation in preventing the return of the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge regime. Since the first court proceedings until today,2023, more than half a million national and international public have participated in the outreach study tours under the coordination and organization of the Public Affairs Section of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal.
