The Office of Administration of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia organizes a handover ceremony of the former Khmer Rouge Tribunal compound back to the Royal Cambodian Army on December 28th, 2022. The handover ceremony takes place after the completion of the judicial proceedings of the Extraordinary Chambers.
From January 1st, 2023, the ECCC shall continue to carry out various residual functions which will be lasted for an initial period of three years, under the Addendum to the UN-RGC Agreement on the Transitional Arrangements and the Completion of Work of the Extraordinary Chambers (“Addendum”) entered into force in December 2021. The ECCC residual premises is located at Building No. 40, Russian Blvd, next to the Council of Ministers.
The former Khmer Rouge tribunal compound had been handed over as a part of the Royal Cambodian Army by the Royal Government of Cambodia in 2006 to be used as a place for the prosecution of crimes committed under the Democratic Kampuchea regime.
