H.E. Sok Puthyvuth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and President of the Cambodian Education Broadcast Management Committee, Visits to the ECCC for Understanding the achievements and Possible Cooperation

Phnom Penh: H.E. Sok Puthyvuth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, leads a delegation to visit the new office of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) in the afternoon of February 15, 2023. During the visit, the delegation was warmly welcomed by H.E. Kranh Tony, Acting Director of Administration and senior officials of the ECCC.

His Excellency Tony Kranh briefed about the successful achievements of the ECCC in the trial of former senior Khmer Rouge leaders over the past 16 years, contributing to the maintenance of peace, psychological healings, the prevention of revenge and hatred in the society and the eradication of the culture of impunity in Cambodia. This achievement is also the greatest legacy of Samdech Vibol Panha Sok An who worked hard and devested his physical and mental strength and wisdom on the work of the ECCC.

Afterwards, H.E. Thaung Socheat, Senior Management Officer of the ECCC, presented a detailed three-year residual works of the ECCC from 2023 to 2025, particularly related to monitoring the execution of criminal cases, reclassification of case files from confidential to public, management, and dissemination of comprehensive archives of more than 3 million pages, outreach, and education to promote awareness of the ECCC judicial process, achievements and legacy to the next generation.

After the presentation, H.E. Sok Puthyvuth praised the achievements of the ECCC and the residual works including maintaining achievement and development of action plan to maintain the important achievements and to reach out and educate younger generation on the ECCC heritage and the value of peace in Cambodia. H.E. fully supported the ongoing activities of the ECCC and agreed to cooperate between the ECCC and Educational Broadcasting Cambodia on the production of the ECCC promotion contents. The two parties also discussed the possibility of conducting joint pilot projects on the use of technology in the courts, such as ensuring the high efficiency and cleanliness of the judiciary, providing justice services closer to those in need, and e-courts, formerly practiced at the ECCC, with the Ministry of Justice, relevant ministries and development partners.
