Public Affairs Section Officer Briefs for 150 students from Batheay District, Kampong Cham Province

Public Affairs Officer of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), April 20, 2023, welcomed and briefed for about 150 students on the significant of the trial on the crimes committed during Democratic Kampuchea regime. The students, join in a study tour organized by the ECCC, are from Hun Sen Batheay High School and Hun Sen Cheung Chnok High School in Batheay District, Kampong Cham Province.

During today's study tour, students visited the Win Win Memorial, Choeung Ek Genocide Center and the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. The purpose of this study tour is to assist the students remember the tragedy occurred during the Khmer Rouge regime, understand the achievements of the ECCC and learn the history of Cambodia liberation from the genocidal regime.

At the Win Win Memorial campus, the Public Affairs Officer briefed the students on the ECCC trial process in Khmer Rouge tribunal and the achievements of this trial. He also stated that the purpose of the trial was to seek justice, to find out the truth, national reconciliation, psychological heal of the victims and to remember the crimes that took place in in the genocidal regime.

Student representative praised and thanked the Khmer Rouge tribunal for organizing this study tour so that young people could better understand the history of Cambodia. He also thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for leading this country to gain peace and develop in all sectors.

The ECCC outreach study tour is organized weekly for students, youth, and the public, as part of the remembrance and participation in preventing the return of the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge regime. Since the first court proceedings until today,2023, more than half a million national and international public have participated in the outreach study tours under the coordination by the Public Affairs Section of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal.
