VSS Regional Forum for Civil Parties

The Victims Support Section organized its first Regional Forum in 2012 for the 150 Civil Parties in Case 002 in Chba Morn Town, Kampong Speu Province. The 150 Civil Parties, who have not attended the Case 002 hearings during the first quarter of 2012, came from Kampong Speu, Kampot, Kandal, and Prey Veng provinces.

Weekly radio show

The ECCC's weekly radio program summarizing the proceedings in court this week was broadcast at Radio National Kampuchea on 5:15 – 6:15 pm on AM 918 KHZ and FM 105.75 MHZ from 17:15-18:15.

ECCC Booklet Distribution

The ECCC Public Affairs Section distributed information booklets about the ongoing court proceedings to students at several high schools in Kampong Cham province.

36 Norwegian Students Visit ECCC

36 students from the University of Agder, Norway, visited the ECCC. They were briefed by Legal Communications Officer Mr. Lars Olsen

Visit from Australian Ambassador to ASEAN

Ms. Gillian Bird, Australian Ambassador to Asean and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs accompanied by Ambassador Penny Richards, Mr. Keith Scott and Dave Gorge, first secretary of the embassy visited the ECCC and and met with Acting Director of Office of Administration HE Tony Kranh and Deputy Director Knut Rosandhaug as well as with Australian staff and officials at the court.

Georgetown University Qatar students visit

A group of 23 students and staff from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar visited the ECCC and was briefed by Mr. Lars Olsen from the Public Affairs Section, Ms. Nisha Valabhji from the Defence Support Section and Ms. Sarah Andrews from the Office of the Co-Prosecutors.

Ms Jaye Ho, Desk Officer for Cambodia in East Asia & Pacific Department; Mr. Andy Palmer, Desk Officer for ECCC as well as the Special Court for Sierra Leone & International Humanitarian Law; Ms. Lesley Saunderson. Deputy Head of Mission, UK Embassy; and Political Officer Krisna Sawada of the UK embassy, visit the ECCC and meet judicial officers and Senior court Officials.

Student

One student from the University of Western Australia comes to the ECCC for a tour of the court and a briefing by PAS.

Visiting of South Korean students

Five students from South Korea come to the ECCC for a visit. They are given a tour of courtroom, a briefing by PAS, and afterwards have a meeting with Judge Chung.

Group visit from the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies

The Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (CPCS)organises a group of 27 people to visit the ECCC. They are briefed by Yuko Maeda, Public Affairs Officer.

Visit of students and teachers from Brookline High School

Visit of students and teachers from Brookline High School, Brookline, MA, USA. They take a tour of the courtroom and then receive a briefing by PAS and OCP.

Students from Philippines and US visit the court

A group of 28 political science students and teachers from the University of Philippines and 8 students and teachers from Brookline High School, Massachussets, USA visited the ECCC and were briefed by Legal Comminicatsions Officer Lars Olsen, Assistant Prosecutor Sarah Andrews and OiC of Defence Support Section Nisha Valabhji.

Phnom Penh Thmey High School

The ECCC Public Affairs Sections visited Phnom Penh Thmey High School and gave a lecture for 2,000 students on 24 February 2012. The lecture was followed by a Q & A session with the students.

Swedish tourists visit ECCC

A group of 17 tourists from Sweden visited the ECCC and was briefed by Legal Communications Officer Lars Olsen.

Film Screening in Kampong Thom

The ECCC Public Affairs Section, in co-operation with the Bophana Centre, screened a video of statements of apology and acknowledgment of responsibility made by Kaing Guek Eav alias Duch during trial for 580 villagers in Trea village, Baray District, Kampong Thom on 22 February 2012.

Judge Paul D. Seeman, Superior Court of California, County of Alameda visited the ECCC and was briefed by Judge Rowan Downing and Legal Communications Officer Lars Olsen.

Legal Communications Officer Lars Olsen met with Mr. Till Faehnders, Asia Correspondent forr Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, and gave him a briefing and tour of the ECCC courtroom.

Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues Stephen Rapp and Jamal Jafari, US Embassy political officer, visit the ECCC to observe the Case 001 final verdict and speak to the press. Afterwards they meet with ADOA (Tony Kranh and Knut Rosandhaug), OCIJ (Judge Kasper-Ansermet), Judges Downing and Chung, and Judges Nil Nonn and Cartwright.

Seven (7) German Parliamentarians visit the ECCC and have meetings with PAS, OCP (Andrew Cayley), VSS (Rong Chhong), and German investigator Thomas Kuehnel

TVK Roundtable day2

The ECCC Public Affairs Section in cooperation with Cambodian National TV, TVK, organized a roundtable discussion about the upcoming Supreme Court Chamber Appeal Judgment in Case 001. Participants included national Co-Prosecutor Ms. Chea Leang, Defence Counsel Mr.Kang Ritheary, S-21 Survivors Mr. Chum Mey and Bou Meng and Lars Olsen and Dim Sovannarom from the Public Affairs Section.
