Mr. KONG Sam Onn (Cambodian Co-Lawyer)

is a member of the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the president of Cambodia Law Services. Mr. Kong has extensive experience in human rights law, court proceedings and criminal defence. He has intervened in numerous high-profile cases representing journalists, politicians, government officials, military officers and ordinary citizens whose basic human rights had been abused. Mr. Kong is a Law Lecturer at the Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia and a doctoral candidate at Nagoya University in Japan. He holds a master’s degree in law from the University of Hong Kong and a bachelor’s degree in law from the Faculty of Law and Economics, Royal University of Phnom Penh.

LA CHAMBRE DE PREMIÈRE INSTANCE SAISIT LES INSTANCES PROFESSIONNELLES APPROPRIÉES D’UN SIGNALEMENT CONCERNANT LA CONDUITE DES CONSEILS DE KHIEU SAMPHAN

Le 19 décembre 2014, la Chambre de première instance des Chambres extraordinaires au sein des tribunaux cambodgiens (CETC) a rendu une ordonnance, par laquelle elle signale la conduite de Me KONG Sam Onn, co-avocat cambodgien de Khieu Samphan, au Président de l’Ordre des avocats du Cambodge, et la conduite des co-avocats internationaux de Khieu Samphan, Me Arthur Vercken et Anta Guissé, au Bâtonnier de l’Ordre des avocats de Paris et au Procureur général de la Cour d’appel de Paris.

Misconduct of Khieu Samphan's counsel referred to professional bodies

On 19 December 2014, the Trial Chamber of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) issued an order, referring the misconduct of Khieu Samphan’s national Co-Lawyer Kong Sam Onn to the President of the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and referring the misconduct of foreign Co-Lawyers Arthur Vercken and Anta Guisse to the President of the Paris Bar Association and the Prosecutor General of the Paris Appeal Court.

La Chambre de première instance des Chambres extraordinaires au sein des tribunaux cambodgiens (CETC) a, conformément à la règle 38 du Règlement intérieur, adressé officiellement un avertissement aux avocats cambodgiens et internationaux de Khieu Samphan et Nuon Chea en raison de leurs manquements à leurs obligations.

Counsel for Khieu Samphan and Nuon Chea warned for misconduct and ordered to appear at Trial Management Meeting

The Trial Chamber of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) has, pursuant to Internal Rule 38, issued an official warning for misconduct to the national and international defence counsel for Khieu Samphan and Nuon Chea.

Kong Sam Onn appointed as national Co-Lawyer for Khieu Samphan

Dr. Sa Sovan, the Cambodian Co-Lawyer for Khieu Samphan, has withdrawn from his position with agreement from his client. The Defence Support Section wishes to thank Dr. Sa for his contribution to Mr. Khieu Samphan’s defence.
