Appeal hearing in Case 001 scheduled for 28-31 March

 

The Supreme Court Chamber of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) has scheduled an appeal hearing in Case 001 against Kaing Guek Eav alias Duch as follows :

Monday 28 March 2011
09:00-16:30 Thematic session 1 (Personal Jurisdiction)

Tuesday 29 March 2011
09:00-16:40 Thematic session 2 (Crimes against humanity) and Thematic session 3 (Sentencing)

Wednesday 30 March 2011
09:00-16:30 Thematic session 4 (Civil Parties’ appeals)

If the hearings cannot be completed within the time frames above, they will continue on Thursday 31 March.

Kaing Guek Eav alias Duch was convicted for crimes against humanity and grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and sentenced to 35 years of imprisonment by the Trial Chamber on 26 July 2010. His sentence was reduced with 5 years as a remedy for the period the Accused had been unlawfully detained by the Cambodian Military Court prior to his transfer to the ECCC.

The Supreme Court Chamber will hear appeals filed by the Co-Prosecutors and the Accused, and by Civil Parties.
