The ECCC Agreement

<div>6 June 2003,the Royal Government and the United Nations signed “Agreement between the United Nations and the Royal Government of Cambodia Concerning the Prosecution under Cambodian Law of Crimes Committed During the Period of Democratic Kampuchea”.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>The agreement is commonly referred to as “the ECCC Agreement”. &nbsp;It provides the framework for international participation and assistance to the Extraordinary Chamber s in the Courts of Cambodia.</div><div><br></div><div>The ECCC Agreement had been approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 13 May 2003, and it was ratified by Cambodia on 14 October 2004. &nbsp;Following the ratification, the ECCC Agreement applies as law within Cambodia.</div><div><br></div>
