ECCC Conducted Outreach Activities with Mobile Resource Centre at AUPP

On 19 April 2024, the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) conducted outreach activities with its Mobile Resource Centre at the American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP). These activities aimed at promoting awareness among students about the crime of genocide and the findings of the ECCC in relation to the responsibility of senior Khmer Rouge leaders for this crime. The event, called “Together We Remember”, was hosted by AUPP in the context of the Genocide Awareness and Prevention month.

The event consisted of several components, including tailored and interactive presentations by ECCC outreach officers, conducted with an interactive screen, an exhibition on the ECCC consisting of 23 panels, and an intergenerational dialogue with a genocide survivor and civil party before the ECCC, and a former ECCC official. The participants and the students discussed, from their own perspectives, the importance of remembering past atrocities and accomplishing judicial reckoning for past crimes.

AUPP academic staff stressed the importance of the event for students to understand their history as well as to prevent atrocities, including genocidal acts.
