“Students are so Exited to Participate in the ECCC’ Outreach Study Tour Program.” Said Chheom Tha

Today, March 20, 2024, Mr. Chheom Tha, the school principal, led about 250 students studying in grade 11th and 12th in Hun Sen Kamchay Mear High School, Prey Veng Province to participate in the study tour organized by Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC). In this March, about 500 students from his high school participated in the study tour of the Khmer Rouge tribunal to visit the Win-Win Memorial, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Choeung Ek Genocide Centre.

"The students in my school are very interested to join in the ECCC study tour program, because they want to learn more about Cambodian history related with the Khmer Rouge regime, the trial of the Khmer Rouge senior leaders, visit Win-Win Memorial, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Killing Field.” Said Chheom Tha.

“More from their classroom, the students learn many new things during their participations”, Tha added.   

Please note that during this study tour, all students were briefing by Win-Win Memorial officers on the history, concepts, contents, and the constructions of Win-Win Memorial. After that, in the Win-Win premise, the students were welcomed and presented by a Public Affairs Officer of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal on the achievement of the ECCC obtained from the trials and the residual functions that the Chamber is currently conducting. Then, the students continued their study tour to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Cheong Ek Genocide Centre to learn the tragedy of Cambodians happened there during the Khmer Rouge regime.

The weekly ECCC outreach study tour, coordinated and lead by the Public Affairs Section is conducted for students, young people, and the public seeks to raise awareness about the atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge regime. AS more than 650,000 members of the national and international public have taken part in outreach study tours since 2009 until the present day, 2024, with the Public Affairs Section of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal coordinating them.
