ECCC Organizes Study Tours 160 Students from Udong District to Visit Win Win Memorial, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Choeung Ek Genocide Centre

The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) organizes a study tour for 160 students in Udong High School, Udong District, Kampong Speu Province to visit Win Win Memorial, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Choeung Ek Genocide Centre, May 10, 2023. The purpose of the study tour is to help the students to learn more and remember the tragedy of the Cambodian people during the Khmer Rouge regime, the history of struggling to liberate Cambodia from Khmer Rouge regime and the trial of crimes committed during that brutal regime.

The students were welcomed and detailed explained by the guides about the meaning and importance of the Win Win Memorial, visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, Choeung Ek Genocide Centre and the presentation by officials from the Khmer Tribunal on the achievements of the trial of former senior leaders of the Khmer Rouge regime.

Mr. Sam Chek, a teacher participated in the program, stated that this visit is very important for the younger generations for helping them to remember and better understand the atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge regime against the Cambodians. He added that the students also understood the true story of the Royal Government of Cambodia in sacrificing to save the country from the genocidal regime and brought peace to the Cambodian people and provides justice to the victims of the killing field regime through prosecuting the senior leaders of the genocidal regime in the Khmer Rouge tribunal.

He added that he, on behalf of the young people who participated in the study tour today, would like to express his appreciation and gratitude for the Win-Win policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia, which has led the country to bring peace and social stability. He also thanked the ECCC for organizing this program so that they could understand, visit the crime scene left over from the Khmer Rouge regime and see the development in Phnom Penh today.

He also requested the Khmer Rouge tribunal to continue organizing this study tour for his students as well as many other young people so that they can better understand the bitter history of Cambodia.

ECCC organizes weekly study tours for students, youth, and the public to promote remembrance and participation in preventing the return of the atrocities such as the Khmer Rouge regime. Since the beginning to 2023, more than half a million national and international public have participated in the study tour under the coordination of the Public Affairs Section of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Court of Cambodia.
