200 Students Participate in the ECCC’ Outreach Study Tour Program

About 200 pedagogical students and university students from the Phnom Penh Pedagogical Training Center and the Royal University of Phnom Penh, 17 January 2024, participated in the outreach study tour program of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) under the facilitation of the Phnom Penh Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia to learn about the history of Cambodia, the legacy of the Khmer Rouge tribunal, and the values of peace.

The program was conducted at the Win-Win Memorial and in the meeting hall of the Phnom Penh Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia.

At the Win-Win Memorial, the students were warmly welcomed and briefed by the Win-Win Memorial guides on the style and content of the magnificent structure of the Win-Win Memorial, the history of the struggle of Cambodian elites in the liberation of the nation from the genocidal regime and the introduction of a win-win policy towards the ending of the civil war in Cambodia.

Then, the students proceeded to the office of the Phnom Penh Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia to join the presentations by a representative of the ECCC regarding the establishment of the Khmer Rouge tribunal, the processing of the trials and legacy on the senior Khmer Rouge leaders. There was also a presentation by an honorary speaker from the Royal Academy of Cambodia on the history of Cambodia, the process of building peace and the value of peace for humanity.

The outreach study tour program is a part of the residual functions to disseminate the ECCC works and legacy to raise awareness to the public following the completion of its judicial proceedings. As over 650,000 of the national and international public have taken part in outreach study tour program since 2009 until the present day, 2024, under the coordination by the Public Affairs Section of the ECCC.
