The Extraordinary of the Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) hosts an outreach study tour for 200 students from Preah Sihanu high school in Kampong Cham province, March 7, 2023, to provide students a deeper understanding of the atrocities committed during the Dark Age and to commemorate the victims of that regime.

During today's study tour, all students visited the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21), the Choeung Ek Genocide Centre, the Win Win Monument, and received a briefing by an official from the Khmer Rouge tribunal about the trial of former senior leaders of Democratic Kampuchea regime. At the end of the day visit, all students would receive a wealth of information and knowledge about the trial of former Khmer Rouge leaders, the brutal torture and massacre of Cambodians by the Khmer Rouge, and their sacrifices of the Cambodian leadership in liberating the country from that genocidal regime.

Mr. Rath Pisak, student leader, said that the students are very happy to participate in the study tour program organized by the ECCC to the historical sites related to the Khmer Rouge Regime. He added that the visit provides much knowledge to the students through seeing the actual images and listening to the briefing from the relevant officials at each location. Though, Mr. Sak said that this program would help the students remember what the Khmer Rouge regime did to Cambodians, understand the value of the peace and joining in preventing genocidal regime from not being happened again in Cambodia.

The leader praised and appreciated the win-win policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia, which led the country to bring peace and social stability. He also thanked the Khmer Rouge tribunal for organizing the program and wishes to have such program for other Cambodians to learn, visit the crime scene left over from the Khmer Rouge regime and see the development in Phnom Penh city today.

The ECCC outreach study tour is organized weekly for students, youth, and the public, as part of the remembrance and participation in preventing the return of the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge regime. Since the first court proceedings until today,2023, more than half a million national and international public have participated in the outreach study tours under the coordination and organization of the Public Affairs Section of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal.
