Invitation to a press conference on results of the special review (see Full report, Summary, TOR, DOA remarks, EC Statement, UNDP Statement)

The Project Board of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) is pleased to invite members of the media to a press conference on the results of the Human Resources Management Review. The press conference will be held at 9:00 to 10:30 on Friday 25 April 2008at the ECCC Information Centre6A, St 21, Sangkat Tonle Bassac, Khan Chamkar Mon, Phnom Penh,(near Psar Kap Ko) Members of the Project Board, namely, H.E. Sean Visoth, the ECCC Director of Administration, Mr. Jo Scheuer, UNDP Country Director, and Mr. Rafael Dochao-Moreno, Charge d' Affaires of the EC Delegation to Cambodia will be present at the press conference. The review was initiated by the Board and carried out in late February 2008 by a team of consultants from Deloitte/ India, and from Cambodia. The review assessed whether the HR management policies and practices of the Cambodian side of ECCC are transparent, accountable, meet international standards, and provide consistent and effective measures against any mismanagement. Australia Contributes A$500,000 to ECCC

The Australian Parliamentary Secretary for International Development Assistance, The Hon. Bob McMullan, announced today at a joint press conference with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister His Excellency Sok An at the Office of the Council of Ministers that Australia is contributing an additional A$500,000 to the Cambodian side of the ECCC budget. In announcing this contribution, Mr McMullan said that the Australian government recognised the importance of the work of the ECCC and the progress achieved to date, and wanted to ensure that the process is not interrupted by lack of funds in the coming months. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for this contribution and noted that Australia has been a consistent supporter of the ECCC since 1999.

Media Alert: Date for ECCC Pre-Trial Chamber Decision (see Scheduling Order)

The Pre-Trial Chamber will announce its decision on the appeal by Nuon Chea against provisional detention on Thursday 20 March 2008 at 10 am. Director of Administration holds meeting with all Cambodian staff

Director of Administration, His Excellency Sean Visoth, holds meeting with all Cambodian staff of the ECCC to give a progress report on the judicial and administrative activities, and on the current funding situation. It now seems likely that funds for the Cambodian side of the budget will last until the end of April. The donors are currently considering the budget projections presented to them both in New York and in Phnom Penh, and the ECCC is in the final stages of responding to a number of their requests for clarification. We understand that the Group of Interested States will meet again in New York in the coming weeks.
