32,633 persons visited ECCC in 2010

32,633 persons visited the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) during 4 days of public hearings and 85 outreach study tour group visits in 2010.

The ECCC Study Tour is a one-day program where the ECCC brings students, teachers and villagers from all across Cambodia to visit the ECCC courtroom and the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum.  The Study Tour is offered twice per week for groups of 300-450 people on each day. The objective of the ECCC Study Tour is to create greater understanding and awareness of the ECCC proceedings among regular Cambodians, and to increase the public interest in the proceedings.

People from all 24 provinces and municipalities in Cambodia have participated in the Study Tour in 2010. The ECCC Study Tour will continue in 2011 until the start of the substantive hearing in Case 002.

The high number of visitors to the ECCC in 2010 illustrates the continued public interest in the ECCC proceedings. Since the commencement of the substantive hearing on 30 March 2009 in Case 001 against Kaing Guek Eav alias Duch, more than 67,000 people have visited the ECCC during public hearings and through the ECCC Study Tour.
